I went with my Boy Scout troop to Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island. I was a worse Boy Scout than I was a student, and only managed two merit badges the whole week – Swimming and Lifesaving.
Nonetheless, it was the best experience I had in scouting, and was a huge part of what brought me back to the program as an adult.
My parents brought the boat over and moored offshore.
This was the first place I heard “The Cremation of Sam McGee,” read at a campfire. It was captivating.
